Wigmen Chant
Goroka Singsing, PNG

The Huli Wigmen pictured here, made quite an impression with their vibrant face paint and tribal chants. The Huli are known as great warriors and farmers. From the day of his birth, the Huli boy was taught that his finest destiny was to become a warrior, to defend and extend the interest of his family and his clan by armed force. Most conflicts are over land boundaries, pigs, and women. Police now help to remedy disputes and it has been several years since a clan war.

Papua New Guinea

PNG is a snapshot in time, with the tribes of the Highlands seeing outsiders for the first time in 1930. Headhunting and cannibalism are traditional practices that were only recently subdued through heavy missionary influence. The rugged terrain maintained tribal isolation resulting in 800 unique languages and cultures. The few travelers who visit this amazing country are rewarded with an adventure of a lifetime.
